UNDERSTANDING YOUR CHILD'S NARCISSISM

Have you seen your child eating all the chocolates you buy, not thinking that his siblings might also like those chocolates?  Or they are angry because you can't afford an expensive toy he wants to buy.  Does he care about other's feeling?

Let us know first the meaning of narcissism.  "Narcissism is a personality trait of egotism, vanity, self-love or just a simple selfishness. It is derived from Narcissus, son of Cephisus, the Greek river god, who was blessed with extremely good looks, so handsome that a many girls fell in love with him and vied for his attention. However, he was so involved with himself that he didn't pay attention to the maidens.  He was punished by the gods for treating nymph Echo badly, command Narcissus to go down to a clear pool, looked into the reflective waters and saw his own face and instantly fell in love with his reflection.  He couldn't bear to leave the reflection and stayed at the pool until he died.

Narcissism is part of children's basic survival gear. When they are little, they see everything and everyone as extensions of themselves.  It is the first step toward building their sense of self, their ego.  Children's narcissism begins with a bonding with their mother.  At the age of two, they do not differentiate between mother and themselves.  When the mother responds to all their cueing and learns baby's personalities and needs the child feels safe and loved. This is natural narcissism, where the child develops a sense of self and it is necessary if the child is to develop a healthy and secure identity. Loving parents always protect their child, trying to guard them from pain, but sometimes they forget that pain is a normal part of living. Don't deprive your children from normal pain and life experience.  If loving parents continue to protect their children from normal pain throughout their development they may become emotionally handicapped.   As the child explores the real world he begins to realize that other people exist, can think and feel too.  Taking care of pets, like dog or bird helps the child to overcome narcissism.  They become less self-centered and will help him to be responsible for others welfare.   Letting him to do planning and decision making based on experience, giving him the duties of caring for his younger siblings develops him to act as a mature one and would lead him to realize the reality that the world doesn't revolve around him.  It is important to understand that narcissism is a natural part of children's normal and healthy development, but could lead to a serious illness if not deal properly. Without his parents love and affection, the child can become insecure, feel less love,  demands constant attention and sometimes become rebellious. Understanding your child's narcissism  and accepting that child is naturally selfish could lead you to act effectively towards his behavior.

A LITTLE RELAXATION BENEFITS A LOT

As a full time mom and housewife I'm like a convenient store, always open and ready to serve.  Actually I'm happy doing my chosen career, a lifetime career.  But sometimes I need a break, have a little time to do good  for myself and  reward my body with a very relaxing massage.  Having my body massage relieves stress, relaxes my tired muscles and increase my well being.  I also learn that it has multiple benefits not only for the body but also for our mind. Experts say that body massage improves our blood circulation, soothes the nerves, release mental and emotional tension, also good for our skin because the oil that's used by the therapist nourish our skin.  Spending an hour but benefiting every inch of my body. Highly recommemded as a great bonding for you and your hubby.

A REVIEW OF THE CONTROVERSIAL RH BILL

Reproductive Health Bill or most popular as RH Bill is aiming to guarantee universal access to methods and information on birth control and maternal care. The bill is highly controversial, with experts, academics, religious institutions, and major political figures both supporting and opposing it, often criticizing the government and each other in the process.

PNoy's Position on RH Bill :

The Catholic Church Position on RH Bill :

IT came to our knowledge that a group the calls itself “Catholics for Reproductive Health bill” or C4RH has been publicly claiming to be a Catholic association or group whose published mission is “to bring Catholics into full harmony with their faith and realize that there is no dissonance with their being Catholic and simultaneously believing in the advocacy and goals of reproductive health and rights.”

We wish to make it clear that the Church does not recognize this group to be an authentic Catholic association or group since it espouses and supports a stand contrary to the magisterial teachings of the Church. The uncompromising stand of the Church to uphold the dignity of the person and to protect and respect the life from conception to natural death has always been the constant teaching of the Church. Public espousal of measures that directly undermine these non-negotiable principles of the Catholic faith is a sharp wedge that cuts the unity of the Church.

Let it be clarified that the Church does not recognize the “Catholics for Reproductive Health” as a genuine Catholic association or organization in accordance with Canon Law. Any Catholic who freely identifies himself or herself with this group gravely errs.

MY DAUGHTER'S DENGUE EXPERIENCE

I can't describe what I felt when I learned that my daughter had striked by dengue.  News about children who died because of dengue was flashback on my mind, I can't help but cry.  My daughter was only 5 years old that time and I can't imagine  her lying on a hospital bed with a dextrose and suffering from pain.  But I know I had to be strong for her, so she can fight.  Everyday she needs a blood test, almost done every 6-8 hours, to check if her platelet count is going up or down,  the worst thing is there is no cure for dengue so all we can do is to give her fruits, healthy foods, more water intake and rely on the blood test.  It's so hard for a mom to see her child crying and shouting whenever the nurse knocks on the door to get a sample of her blood, it's a phobia for her.  After my child's hospitalization I search a lot about dengue so it will not happen again to any of my children, hope it could help to other mom's like me.

WHAT IS A DENGUE? -  A debilitating viral disease of the tropics, transmitted by mosquitoes and causing sudden fever and acute pains in the joints.
WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS OF DENGUE? -  It starts with chills, headache, pain upon moving the eyes, low backache, aching of legs and joints, pale pink rashes over the face, fever and rapid drop in body temperature with profuse sweating.
HOW TO GET RID OF DENGUE CARRIER MOSQUITOES? - Avoid mosquito bites, and eliminate their breeding area by cleaning our surroundings,  remove containers that can collects rain and run-off water such as tires, broken pales, and old plastics. Regularly change water in the aquariums and flower vases. Eliminate stagnant water and use insecticides to kill mosquitoes.

DENGUE CARRIER MOSQUITO
Dengue has no cure so it's best to give your children healthy foods and increase water intake because healthy person is not easily strike by dengue.  Always remember that prevention is better than cure.  Stay healthy all the time!
